A base bay is the storage area between two uprights and their cross beams. It is also called a base shelf. In contrast to the add-on bay, the base bay is a complete shelving unit that can stand on its own.
What is the difference between a basic bay and an add-on bay in a shelving system?
A basic bay consists of two side walls, also known as uprights, and stands alone. It often forms the start of a shelving system and is therefore also the first unit to be assembled. Basic bays are more expensive than add-on bays, as one more upright is required. By sharing the side panels, you save material, costs and space. The system still remains stable as the shelves connect the basic bay to the add-on bays.
Is it possible to use an add-on bay as an independent shelving unit without a base bay?
No, an add-on bay does not have the second side upright required for stability. The less expensive add-on bays always require a base bay for attaching the crossbars and shelves of the upright divided with the base bay.
For the storage racks and pallet racking from TOPREGAL are packing tables and add-on tables with the dimensions of the respective base bays in various widths, depths and heights and optionally available as wooden shelves or grids.
