Rack inspection

A racking inspection in accordance with the applicable regulations of DIN EN 15635 and DGUV 208-061 ensures that you meet the legal requirements for warehouse safety in Germany and many other European countries. At the same time, regular rack inspections in the warehouse and workshop ensure a safe working environment for you and your team. An annual inspection of your racking systems by a competent person is mandatory and essential when using industrial racking (Currently only available in Germany).

Shelving inspection in accordance with DIN EN 15635 and DGUV 208-061

The shelving inspection is based on the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichv). According to this, heavy-duty racking as work equipment must be inspected regularly with regard to the risk assessment. The type of racking inspection and inspection intervals are regulated in DGUV 208-061 and DIN EN 15635. According to these regulations, a racking inspection for storage safety must be carried out by a competent person at least every twelve months. This annual inspection is carried out in addition to the weekly rack inspection by the operator.

What is checked during a racking inspection?

The racking is checked for its static properties, stability, damage and technical specifications. For example, the following aspects of the racking are examined in the test report:

  • Has the shelving been assembled in accordance with the assembly instructions?
  • Has the shelving been loaded correctly?
  • Are loads evenly distributed?
  • Has the permissible bay load of the shelving been complied with?
  • Are the shelf supports plumb?
  • Are there any cracks in the weld seams or in the base material?
  • Is there any damage to the overall structure?
  • Are all safety requirements fulfilled and intact?
  • What is the condition and effectiveness of the safety devices?
  • Are all necessary markings attached to the racking?
  • Are the load units stable?

Who is authorized to inspect racks and how is the inspection documented?

TOPREGAL shelf inspectors are trained and certified as "competent persons" in accordance with DIN EN 15635. This means that they are trained to carry out the annual rack inspection, also known as an expert inspection. An inspection report is drawn up for the racking on site. The racking inspector then labels the racking accordingly with the current inspection sticker.

In addition to our own products, our team is also qualified to inspect shelving that you have not purchased from TOPREGAL. We test the following rack types, among others:

What hazard levels are there and what happens if defects are found on racking?

As part of the racking inspection, our racking inspectors check the racking for different levels of impairment.

A distinction is made between three hazard levels:

  • Green: Shelf without defects.
  • Orange: Minor defects that must be marked and constantly monitored.
  • Red: Serious damage to the racking. Danger is imminent and the shelving must be relieved immediately.

Our shelf inspectors always have materials with them to carry out the most common adjustments directly on site and thus impair your business processes as little as possible. As part of the shelving inspection, detailed documentation and a final report including a catalog of measures are created for the shelving together with the inspection report, which we provide for your records. If a fault has been rectified, this must be documented.
