Why choose a heavy-duty racking system from TOPREGAL?
Customers often ask us: “What defines an industrial heavy-duty racking system?” The answer lies in the combination of quality and tested safety. All TOPREGAL heavy-duty racking systems are based on a robust boltless system that guarantees quick assembly while also ensuring maximum stability. All racking systems are designed and tested in accordance with the applicable standards, in particular EN 15512 for structural design and EN 15635 for the use and maintenance of steel static storage systems.

Which heavy-duty racking system is right for my stored goods?
The most important question when choosing heavy-duty racking is: what needs to be stored? After all, not every racking system is equally suitable for every type of stored goods.
For goods on pallets (Euro pallets, one-way pallets, …) and heavy loads moved by forklift trucks, pallet racks are the right choice. If cartons, containers, workshop materials or larger individual items are stored manually, storage racks & longspan racks offer excellent flexibility – also available as corner racks to make the best possible use of every corner. Shelving racks are particularly suitable for small parts, spare parts and items that need to be accessed quickly. These heavy-duty racking systems are also commonly used in offices and archives. Cantilever racks are ideal for pipes, strips, timber panels or other long goods. Tyre racks provide clear, space-saving and, above all, careful storage for wheels and tyres. Sloping shelf racks fitted with matching picking bins are ideal for the first-in-first-out (FIFO) principle.
How do I find the right size and load capacity for my heavy-duty racking?
Many customers know what they want to store, but are still unsure about height, depth, number of levels or load capacity. This is exactly where structured planning pays off. It is important that the racking system not only suits your current needs, but also offers sufficient capacity for future requirements.
Questions you should answer before buying:
- How heavy are my stored goods?
- How often do I need to access the goods?
- Will the goods be stored by hand or with industrial trucks?
- How much space is available in terms of width, height and depth?
- Should the racking be extended at a later stage?
Why are modular heavy-duty racking systems so practical in day-to-day operations?
Warehouses grow, product ranges change and processes continue to develop. That is why it makes sense to rely on heavy-duty racking systems that can be expanded and adapted flexibly. This is exactly where modular racking systems offer a major advantage: as demand grows, you can add extra bays, levels or suitable accessories.
TOPREGAL offers not only various types of racking, but also individual racking parts & accessories. This is particularly helpful if existing racking installations need to be extended or adapted to new requirements. In this way, you are not just investing in a rack, but in a solution that grows with your business.
More than just racks: everything for an efficient warehouse environment
A high-quality heavy-duty racking system is the foundation, but efficient warehouse processes often require more. That is why TOPREGAL also offers suitable additions for safe and smooth day-to-day operations. These include protection & security for racking systems and personnel, workbenches and packing tables as well as mobile racks and tables.
Assembly and ongoing operation also play a key role. With racking installation and rack inspection services, TOPREGAL supports companies in setting up their warehouse areas professionally and using them safely in the long term, in line with applicable standards, guidance and good practice.
Expert knowledge: FAQ about heavy-duty racking
Customers looking to buy heavy-duty racking often have similar questions. We have summarised the most important answers for you below:
Which heavy-duty racking system is suitable for pallets?
Pallet racks are the right solution for palletised goods. They are designed for heavy loads and structured pallet storage.
What is the difference between a storage rack and a shelving rack?
Storage racks / longspan racks are well suited to larger, bulkier or particularly heavy goods that are still stored and removed manually. Shelving racks are ideal for files, small parts, cartons and products that are also picked without industrial trucks.
When is a cantilever rack or a vertical rack the best choice?
A cantilever rack is the right option if long goods such as pipes, profiles, bars or panels are to be stored horizontally. If you prefer vertical storage for long goods, and if your processes and on-site conditions allow it, a vertical rack is the ideal solution.
Can I extend my heavy-duty racking later on?
Yes, all TOPREGAL racking systems can be extended modularly. Suitable individual racking parts & accessories help to adapt existing installations to new requirements. The only exception is the small and lightweight FB500 shelving rack, which cannot be extended modularly and offers a cost-effective entry-level solution – perfect for smaller businesses with limited storage space requirements.
How do I find the right rack for my needs?
The easiest way is to use the TOPREGAL configurators. Depending on the type of rack, dimensions, layout and requirements can be planned directly.
Does TOPREGAL also offer support for assembly and inspection?
Yes, with racking installation and rack inspection, suitable services are available for professional use. The range of services may vary by country and is being expanded step by step. TOPREGAL often works with qualified partners and can provide recommendations.
What should be considered when assembling heavy-duty racking?
When assembling heavy-duty racking, a number of basic points must be observed to ensure that the relevant racking system can be used safely, durably and in compliance with standards. For reliable operation in warehouses, workshops or dispatch areas, we recommend following the guidance below.
► Assembly in accordance with TOPREGAL assembly and operating instructions
Assembly and conversion should always be carried out in accordance with our assembly and operating instructions. All safety instructions contained therein must be observed in full. The uprights are connected to the base plates and then fixed to the load-bearing floor. The cross beams are attached using a simple boltless design and secured with locking pins.
► Load-bearing and level ground surface
Heavy-duty racking may only be installed on a level, stable and sufficiently load-bearing surface. Uneven floors can impair stability and increase the risk of instability or tipping; levelling shims can compensate for minor unevenness. Requirements relating to design, stability and anchoring must be observed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the applicable standards, in particular EN 15512.
► Observe the maximum load capacity
Make sure that the specified shelf load and the permitted total load capacity of the rack are not exceeded. For optimum stability and a long service life, the load should be distributed evenly across all levels.
► No unauthorised structural modifications
Changes to the structure are not permitted. This includes, among other things, adding extra levels as well as shortening, extending or altering individual components. Such interventions can impair structural integrity, compromise safety and may lead to the loss of warranty claims.
► Maintain safety clearances
When positioning the rack, sufficient distances from traffic routes, emergency exits and other operational facilities should be planned. This helps to keep working areas safe and escape routes accessible at all times. During assembly, it is best to mark the exact position of the rack on the floor in advance.
► Use suitable tools
Only the recommended tools should be used for assembly – usually a rubber mallet. In addition, wearing protective gloves is recommended in order to avoid injuries from metal edges.
► Comply with labelling requirements
Labelling by means of a load notice is mandatory. These are always included in our scope of delivery to help ensure a high standard of safety.
► Inspect racks regularly
Inspect the heavy-duty racking regularly for damage, deformation or loose connections. Depending on the area of use, regular inspections should be organised and documented in accordance with the applicable safety requirements, in particular EN 15635 and relevant local guidance or good practice.
